This is the official blog of Journey117. Our hope is this will be a place where various authors share with you the vision, values, insights, and updates from the ministry. Please take some time to read the vision and mission of the ministry below. The main website for Journey117 can be found here.
Journey117 exists to equip influential orphan advocates through high impact Journey trips that offer informative teaching, practical experiences to serve cross culturally, and training to impact your personal advocacy for the sake of the orphan and widow.
This formative training experience progresses participants through a multi-dimensional equipping experience in orphan care and rescue. You will learn the Biblical foundation of God’s heart for the orphan, the history of orphan care through the ages, and the various approaches to rescuing the abandoned and orphaned. Your J117 "in-field experience" will immerse you in the following ministry experience:
While on your Journey, you will…
Experience first-hand various indigenous serving points relevant to widows and orphans such as battered women’s shelter, feeding programs, and at-risk youth drop-in centers.
Experience orphaning and abandonment issues first hand. Seeing kids in the streets, the slums, hospitals, garbage dumps, and red-light districts.
Visit and learn about existing Christian, secular, and governmental approaches to orphan care. Experience child-headed households, government/secular/Christian institutional orphanages and children’s villages.
Celebrate and experience the orphan care solution: The indigenous Church. Engage with Churches helping to prevent and delay orphaning, raising orphans in family-style homes, and learn how the church is helping to transition these children to adulthood.
