Huguens Jean, an engineer and filmmaker in Maryland, recently emailed World Orphans president Paul Myhill to share how a blog post written by Myhill titled “To Soar like Eagles (Haiti Reflection)” was one of his main inspirations for the film Lift Up.
“When the earthquake happened, I felt paralyzed. I tried my best to help with the internet and the phone, but my best efforts felt small. Just like millions of people around the world, I wanted to be on the ground in Haiti and help in whatever capacity I could, but I was miles away with no means to get there,” said Jean, a native Haitian.
Hearing the remarkable stories of survivors inspired Jean and that desire quickly transformed into a journey which later became the documentary “Lift Up”.
“We hope that ‘Lift Up’ can inspire people who might be mourning the death of a friend or family member to stay strong,” said Jean. “We want the world to see the side of Haiti that you don’t ever see in the news or on TV. It’s not all violence and political turmoil over there. There is a lot of beauty in the culture and the people.”
